5 Common Mistakes People Make for Planning a Party – How to Avoid Them

Whether it's your child's first birthday party, or your 25th anniversary party, or even just a stag party; what you really don’t want is the party to suck and suffer because of one simple yet disastrous mistake. Although, you’re still going to make mistakes but you can avoid the major ones by keeping these few pointers in mind.

1. Not making a guest list: You really wouldn’t want to begin a feud with a friend or relative, just because you forgot to invite Uncle Sam or you called Mike at the last minute. In amidst of planning for the party, it’s easy to forget some names. So, it’s best to make a list of guests well in advance.

2. Not deciding a theme: A party with no identity at all is just as good as not having one. It’s important to set the theme for the party so the guests know how to show up for the event. An anniversary party will be different from that of a child’s birthday, and that of first anniversary will be different from that of a 25th anniversary, for example,(25th is silver-make it the main color in your palette for decorations and tableware).

3. Sending the invitation out too late-or too early: As mentioned in point one, sending an invitation late can hamper with people’s plan and they might not be able to show up for the party. People may forget the invitation accidently, if it arrives too early, a late invitation might not give guests enough time to plan to attend. The best time would be to send the incitation 2-3 weeks before the event and use technology to do it fast: WhatsApp, Facebook, Text Messaging, etc.

4. Not giving important information to your guests: Don’t forget to add some necessary information in the invitation like dress code, theme for the evening, will there be alcohol beverages, leave phone number details, address of the venue, etc.

5. Inappropriate party venue: Throwing a party in venue which is too big for your guest list can take the fun out of the party and also the big guest list and congested venue.

Tip:
You’re going to make mistake, you’re human, the secret is to enjoy yourself and have a good time. It’s your party afterall.
